
The NSW Agency for Clinical Innovation (ACI) has developed the
Minimum Standards for the Management of Hip Fracture in the Older Person in order to improve the outcomes for patients with fractured hips requiring surgery and management. Seven standards have been identified:
- Orthogeriatric clinical management of each patient
- Optimal pain management
- Surgery is within 48 hours and in the daytime
- Surgery is not cancelled
- Commencement of mobilisation within 24 hours of surgery
- Refracture prevention
- Local ownership of data systems and processes to drive improvements in care
