Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) constitutes one of the world's most pressing public health threats, is a major global health security risk and is very expensive, with AMR-induced GDP losses estimated at 0.4 to 1.6%. The themed section goes further to consider strategies outside the realm of traditional clinical pharmacology stewardship and infectious diseases practice that could be used to engage healthcare facility administrators, the agricultural industry and policy makers to work together to employ effective strategies for improving antimicrobial development and use.Special Issue: Future of Antimicrobials, 2015.
