This literature review examined the evidence for risks associated with assisted reproductive technology (ART). The best available evidence indicates that a pregnancy after ART is often characterised by an increased risk of poorer health outcomes both for the foetus and the mothers. However these findings are confounded by multiple factors so "it is not currently known whether this is an effect of ART or of the underlying biological profile of the subfertile population".
