An Introduction to social media for scientists

This open access article describes the exploding popularity and rapid expansion of online tools and the increasing number of science-based professionals taking advantage of them. Many researchers still feel overwhelmed and hesitant toward getting started with social media and the aim of this paper is to familiarise researchers with existing internet resources by discussing: prospective benefits that can stem from online science conversations; explaining how scientists can efficiently and effectively harness online resources; and providing an overview of popular online tools.
