The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare has released Australia's hospital statistics 2012-13 which reports that there were approximately 5.2 million same-day acute separations and 3.7 million overnight acute separations from hospitals in that time. Hospitals also dealt with 7.9 million non-admitted emergency presentations. There were 1338 hospitals in Australia in that time, with public hospitals accounting for about 68% of beds. The report also gives statistics on hospital expediture, staffing and surgery.
